What WebMCP is and how to turn it on

WebMCP is a Meta developer preview for Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses. To turn it on, open the Meta AI app, go to Developer Mode, and switch on WebMCP for your glasses. With DisplayList, that means you can speak to an open list and Meta AI can add items, check them off, or read back what is left.

WebMCP is a Meta feature for Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses. It lets a web app in the glasses offer tools to Meta AI, so you speak, Meta AI picks a tool, and the app does the action. With DisplayList, that means you can talk to an open list to add items, check items off, open a list, or hear what is left.

What WebMCP does

WebMCP connects Meta AI to a web app in your glasses. The web app offers a small set of actions. Meta AI listens to what you say and calls the action that fits.

With DisplayList, those actions are list actions. DisplayList offers add, check, uncheck, read back, and open. There is no speech recognition in DisplayList itself.

That last part matters. You speak to Meta AI, not to DisplayList. Meta AI picks the tool, and DisplayList applies the resulting list change. Then your glasses and the web sync the result a few seconds later, the same way a tap does.

What you can say with DisplayList

WebMCP is general. What it does depends on the web app you have open. In DisplayList, the voice actions are narrow and practical.

With a list open in your glasses, you can say:

  • "Hey Meta, add eggs and butter."
  • "Hey Meta, check off milk."
  • "Hey Meta, what's left?"
  • "Hey Meta, start over."

From the lists screen, you can also say:

  • "Hey Meta, open my grocery list."
  • "What lists do I have?"

Here is a worked example:

  1. Open your grocery list in DisplayList.
  2. Say, "Hey Meta, add eggs and butter."
  3. Two new rows appear at the bottom of the list.
  4. Say, "Hey Meta, check off milk."
  5. Milk moves to the done items.
  6. A few seconds later, the same change appears at displaylist.fun.

DisplayList does not turn free conversation into a full notes page. It works with a handful of list actions.

Where to turn it on

WebMCP is a developer preview from Meta. It is off until you switch it on for your glasses.

Open the Meta AI app on the phone your glasses are paired with. Go to Developer Mode, the same place you use to add web apps, and turn on WebMCP.

If you have not added DisplayList yet, read the install guide. If you want the background on how apps in the glasses work, see what web apps are.

Developer Mode is also required to add DisplayList in the first place. In the Meta AI app, open Settings, then App Info, and tap the app version number five times. Then tap Enable in the pop-up.

What happens to what you say

When you use this feature, Meta AI hears what you say and picks the tool. DisplayList does not do the speech recognition itself.

DisplayList does not store what you say. It stores the list change that comes from the tool call, such as a new item or a checked item. That change then syncs with displaylist.fun the same way other list changes do.

If you say "add eggs and butter," the result is two new list rows. If you say "what's left," Meta AI reads the open items out loud. DisplayList does not need to store the spoken sentence for that to work.

What to expect in daily use

WebMCP works best when you know the action you want. Short commands are easier for Meta AI to map to a list tool.

Good moments to use it are simple ones. Your hands are full. You are packing. You are in a store aisle. You want to add one thing, check one thing, or hear what is left.

It does not replace every tap. Sometimes moving through a list with the Meta Neural Band is still the clearest way to work, especially if you want to check several nearby items in a row.

Languages and limits

DisplayList supports English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Thai and Chinese. Your lists can be in any language.

For WebMCP, the tool names are English, for Meta AI. What DisplayList reads back comes in your language.

This feature is a developer preview from Meta. That means you need to turn it on first, and behavior may not match every phrasing you try. If a request does not work, say it again with a simpler list action.

If it is not working

Start with the switch. Check that WebMCP is on in Developer Mode in the Meta AI app.

Then check context. Open DisplayList in your glasses, and open the list you want to talk to. If no list is open, commands for adding, checking, or reading back may not fit what you are looking at.

If DisplayList itself is not installed or paired, follow the install guide. If you want short answers on pairing, languages, or everyday use, see questions.
